Mirrors & Windows is Windham High School’s annual literary and art journal that publishes original student work: drawing, painting, sculpture, jewelry, photography, short stories, poetry, scripts, and songs--the sky is the limit!
The magazine is student-run, featuring an Editorial Board that chooses a theme; the Board then solicits, evaluates, and selects submissions for publication with the help of the Selection Committee. Once all pieces have been chosen, the layout is created, developing the theme through font choice, graphic representation, and formatting choices. Then the magazine is painstakingly proofread by students as well as faculty, and published.
Windham High School is proud of the creativity of its students, and this creativity is prominently displayed in Mirrors & Windows. Whether it’s song lyrics that can be heard as a finished performance by clicking on a QR code with a smartphone, or multi-lingual poetry, or evocative photography that demands an immediate emotional response, our magazine delivers.
Past volumes include Mirrors & Windows, the introductory issue; Watch Time Fly; Behind the Masquerade; Phases; Rebirth of a Phoenix; Woke! and this year’s issue, Out Loud.
In 2018, Woke! received an EXCELLENT rating from the Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) Program of the National Council of Teachers of English.
Mirrors & Windows Editorial Board and Selection Committee are run as an after-school program. The magazine is published in the spring, featuring student work from that school year.
Come join us! We would love your artistic input into the next edition of Mirrors & Windows. Make friends while refining your critical reading and proofing skills. You’ll also learn to lay out a publication, and to use publishing software to create a finished product.
